Hamilton Beach Duel Breakfast Sandwich Maker

1.  Pre-heat machine.  Lightly brush inside the non-stick plates and rings with oil.  I used canola oil.

When the green light comes on, add your choice of bread to the bottom base ring.

Add your choice of cooked meat and sliced onion rings.  Lay the next ring down.

2.  In a small bowl add 1 egg, pepper and salt and any other seasonings you wish.  Stir and pour into the second ring layer.  Make sure the base is in the closed position.  Repeat if using the double machine.  Close the top lid and set the timer for 2-2 1/2 minutes (make sure egg is not runny).

  3.  Open lid to base bottom ring and add cheese, and any other toppings you want.

Lay down the 2nd egg layer ring again and add any more toppings you want like pepperoni, baby leaves of swiss chard or spinach, then finally add the bun top.  Set timer for 1/2-1 minute.

Unplug the machine.  Lift the lid.

Swing out the side movable bases(under the egg) and lift up the ring.  The sandwich will fall to the base.  Lift up the last ring.

Use only utensils for non-stick cook ware to remove the sandwiches.

To serve you can add mayo or a sauce, dressing, fresh slices of avocado, tomato, veggies, lettuce, etc. if desired or eat it just as is.

Ready to eat?

Tips:

Have everything pre-measured and egg with seasonings mixed and ready to go before placing the bread in the machine.  This will keep the sandwich from over browning.

Only use pre-cooked meat.

Bread:  I used Pepperidge Farm 100% Wheat Hamburger buns (3 1/2 " fits perfectly in machine).

You can use a 3 - 3 1/2" cookie cutter (glass, tin food can) to cut any cheese, meat, bread slice so it will fit in this machine.  Or buy it in this shape.

You can make thin pancakes in this machine to use for the sandwich breads.  Be creative and try cornbread, rye, whole grain, quick bread, etc.

You can make 4 mini omelets or 4 mini pancakes at once using the 4 rings.

Remember to lightly oil the rings before each use.

This sandwich fits in the Mediterranean Diet plan (omit the chips though!)

I've only been following the Mediterranean Diet for 2 weeks.  My doctor reccomended it in connection to the blood type diet food choices.  So because I'm A type blood, I eliminate the beef and pork choices or any other non- A blood type approved food.  So I continue to eat for my blood type while adding the Mediterranean style (pyramid of eating).  So far I've seen health improvement on all levels including: lowered blood pressure, the spine, swelling reduced, 4 pounds lost (amazing since we went out to eat about 6 (non-diet) times during this same time.)  I only exercised 3 times.  This week I'm planning to exercise moderately, 5 days per week, watch the sweets and majorly reduce the going out to eat.  But best of all is the health benefits!

My favorite recipe listings from above are:  7 layer dip, guacamole, Summer Sunshine Salad, Baked Mediterranean Vegetables (tasted better the 2nd day on), and Chicken Avocado Burritos.  I'll be trying lots of more recipes for this week and on.
