Keurig Update

Keurig Ramen Veggie Soup

1  3oz. pkg. ramen noodle soup
1/2 - 1 cup of your favorite veggies, extremely thin slices (use a mandolin or slicer)
Toppings like:  fresh herbs (basil, green onion top, garlic green top, chives, cilantro, etc.) parmesean cheese, seasonings, butter spray

1.  Fill Keurig water tank with filtered water to fill line.  Preheat the water.

2. Prepare vegetables.  For carrots and zucchini, the mandolin or slicer is perfect.

Sissors work well for the fresh herbs.

Place in the serving dish.  Pour in the seasoning packet.  Add the noodles.

3.  Lift machine handle, press dispense hot water, continue then 10 oz. (depends on the dish size).  Press dry noodles into liquid then again at about 1/2 minute.

Cover for about 6 minutes.  Stir just the noodles at about 4 minutes.  After 6 minutes stir the vegetables at the bottom into the noodles.

 Add any toppings you like.

I think this tastes better made on the stove top but this is nice on days when you don't want to heat up the house and or like aldente better.

The bottom 1/3 of the dish is where the soupy part is.

This machine was won on a penny auction.  I paid less than 70 cents for it, brand new and it had free shipping to the U.S.A.http://branding.auctions3c.com/

More Hamilton Beach Duel Breakfast Sandwich Maker Recipes

I used to live in a sub-tropical city that grew pineapples locally.  There is nothing that can compare to a freshly picked, ripe pineapple.  Vendors on the street would offer large spears in a bag or chunks on wooden kabob like sticks.  Perfectly lush, deep golden and delightfully, sweet fruit.  To this day I can't eat pineapple from a can.  Because it tastes just like that, a metal can.  I buy pineapples for a great price at Aldi and let them ripen.

To ripen a pineapple, wait till it is mostly golden in color.  Then I prop it up at a corner of my kitchen counter top turned upside down to allow the sweetness to flow down through out the whole pineapple for a few days.  If  peeling and coring too early, it will not be sweet.  If waiting too long till it is over ripe it may be spoiled or have no sweetness.

Pineapple is also great frozen.  I layer a few thin sliced  rings between a layer of plastic bag or plastic wrap and place in a rounded bottom Tupperware (plastic) small mixing bowl.  Fill it to the top, add the lid, remove excess air and put in the freezer.  Works great for small or large servings of pineapple when ever you need it.  I use the frozen pineapple mostly in smoothies, the spears in the Yonanas machine (see my earlier blog about it) or in mixed fresh fruit salads topped with a few spoonfuls of great blueberry yogurt (from Save A Lot) sprinkled with Quaker Oats Honey Almond granola and a pinch of cinnamon and nuts on the top, or in spinach or carrot salads.

To core and peel a pineapple:

1.  Cut both ends off a very ripe pineapple.

2. Insert the circular saw edge over the center core and press.

  Turn clockwise.

Release handle button, remove or slide spiral slices off or slice down one side with a knife to easily slip off the shaft.

Using the basic instructions for this single or duel machine from Nov. 1, 2016, make these changes.

Fresh Pineapple Canadian Bacon Sandwich

1 Hamburger bun, mustard on top bun is optional
2 slices Canadian Bacon
Thin slice of onion
1 slice of fresh pineapple
1 slice Provolone cheese
1 egg, beaten, seasoned with salt and pepper.
Few sprigs fresh parsley and chives
Cook egg 2 - 2 1/2 minutes.  Then add cheese and bun top.  Cook 1/2 - 1 more minute.

Cornbread and Ham Sandwich

1 triangle or circle shaped piece of cornbread
1 slice ham or Canadian bacon
Thin slice of onion
1 egg, seasoned with pizza spices, salt and pepper
1 slice cheese
     Cook egg 2 - 2 1/2 minutes.  Then add cheese cook for 1/2 - 1 more minute.

TIPS:

Do not preheat the machine too long.  Just until the green light comes on.

You can add the cheese onto the cooked egg under the bun if you want.

I used the left over triangle corn bread shape since it was already in my freezer from a batch I had made the week before for dinner.  A circle shape would be better.  Just use a cookie cutter to cut it after baking it, while it's still in the pan.  Or a tiny pie tin may be the right size to bake a few.  This recipe (Jiffy mix) was a bit crumbly so next time I'd use a more firm, denser cornbread recipe and a thicker layer of cornbread.

See Nov. 1st, 2016 for places where this machine can be bought or bid on.

Hamilton Beach Duel Breakfast Sandwich Maker

1.  Pre-heat machine.  Lightly brush inside the non-stick plates and rings with oil.  I used canola oil.

When the green light comes on, add your choice of bread to the bottom base ring.

Add your choice of cooked meat and sliced onion rings.  Lay the next ring down.

2.  In a small bowl add 1 egg, pepper and salt and any other seasonings you wish.  Stir and pour into the second ring layer.  Make sure the base is in the closed position.  Repeat if using the double machine.  Close the top lid and set the timer for 2-2 1/2 minutes (make sure egg is not runny).

  3.  Open lid to base bottom ring and add cheese, and any other toppings you want.

Lay down the 2nd egg layer ring again and add any more toppings you want like pepperoni, baby leaves of swiss chard or spinach, then finally add the bun top.  Set timer for 1/2-1 minute.

Unplug the machine.  Lift the lid.

Swing out the side movable bases(under the egg) and lift up the ring.  The sandwich will fall to the base.  Lift up the last ring.

Use only utensils for non-stick cook ware to remove the sandwiches.

To serve you can add mayo or a sauce, dressing, fresh slices of avocado, tomato, veggies, lettuce, etc. if desired or eat it just as is.

Ready to eat?

Tips:

Have everything pre-measured and egg with seasonings mixed and ready to go before placing the bread in the machine.  This will keep the sandwich from over browning.

Only use pre-cooked meat.

Bread:  I used Pepperidge Farm 100% Wheat Hamburger buns (3 1/2 " fits perfectly in machine).

You can use a 3 - 3 1/2" cookie cutter (glass, tin food can) to cut any cheese, meat, bread slice so it will fit in this machine.  Or buy it in this shape.

You can make thin pancakes in this machine to use for the sandwich breads.  Be creative and try cornbread, rye, whole grain, quick bread, etc.

You can make 4 mini omelets or 4 mini pancakes at once using the 4 rings.

Remember to lightly oil the rings before each use.

This sandwich fits in the Mediterranean Diet plan (omit the chips though!)

Check out the Mediterranean Diet here at Pinterest:  https://www.pinterest.com/tcknighthoodent/the-mediterranean-diet/

I've only been following the Mediterranean Diet for 2 weeks.  My doctor reccomended it in connection to the blood type diet food choices.  So because I'm A type blood, I eliminate the beef and pork choices or any other non- A blood type approved food.  So I continue to eat for my blood type while adding the Mediterranean style (pyramid of eating).  So far I've seen health improvement on all levels including: lowered blood pressure, the spine, swelling reduced, 4 pounds lost (amazing since we went out to eat about 6 (non-diet) times during this same time.)  I only exercised 3 times.  This week I'm planning to exercise moderately, 5 days per week, watch the sweets and majorly reduce the going out to eat.  But best of all is the health benefits!

My favorite recipe listings from above are:  7 layer dip, guacamole, Summer Sunshine Salad, Baked Mediterranean Vegetables (tasted better the 2nd day on), and Chicken Avocado Burritos.  I'll be trying lots of more recipes for this week and on.

December -  Black and Decker Handy Pop'n Serve, hot air popcorn popper.  I've had this one for over 10 years after I bought it used.  I like how the butter is melted or popcorn is measured in the center of the lid.

Use this search engine for more options like:  oil, non-GMO, organic, specialty, regular popping corn  or anything.  This is a world market place, so pay attention to the voltage and plug type on the appliances.  When I lived in Europe and Asia, I plugged my 110V appliances into a transformer of that nation's voltage and they all worked just fine.
